Prof. Ramesh Pillai简介
Ramesh Pillai is a professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Before that he was a research group leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Grenoble Outstation, France for 10 years. Originally from India, Ramesh received his Masters in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India and went to Europe for his PhD degree from University of Bern, Switzerland in 2002. He did his postdoc with Prof. Witold Filipowicz at the Friedrich Miescher Institute, Basel, Switzerland.
His interests lie in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by non-coding RNAs. His past work was aimed at understanding the mechanism by which microRNAs repress translation of target mRNAs. His lab is currently involved in understanding the role of germline small RNAs in development.
He has received several awards including the Best PhD thesis prize from the Faculty of Biology, University of Bern, the Scaringe Award from the RNA Society, the FEBS Anniversary Prize from the FEBS and the Max M Burger Prize from the FMI, Basel. Among others, his laboratory has attracted competitive funding from the European Union in the form of a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (2011) and a Consolidator Grant (2015).
He is actively setting up his new laboratory in Geneva and encourages applications from potential PhD and postdoctoral candidates in the audience.
